The J1

Designed by the architect Gaston Castel, the J1 (J for Joliette, the name of the neighbourhood) is one of the two maritime buildings still remaining out of the five that were originally built. Today it represents the last significant part of the reinforced concrete complex making up the Joliette maritime terminal that was built by the Marseille Chamber of Commerce at the end of the 1920s.

2022 half-yearly traffic results

The Port of Marseille Fos handled 38 million tonnes (MT) of cargo between January and June 2022, as in the first half of 2021. Overall stability, obscuring trends by segment. Manufactured goods are up sharply: new container record, significant growth for trailers. Hydrocarbons are stable: crude and refined oil traffic are down, offset by the very sharp increase in gas traffic.
